Does this sound right (xfx rma)

Definitely wont be buying from them again jon, great point about "shockingly thick people" handling rma's. I once had to enquire about a mobo problem on behalf of a friend (borked sli board), when i mentioned sli to the guy on the phone, i overheard him asking someone else in the room, "whats sli". I knew i was in for a long phone call.

This is complete BS setter, god knows why they're being like this with you mate, especially when they have plenty stock of equivalent cards that they could send you.

I'm starting to get worried about my PSU that I've RMA'd with them now, as Be Quiet no longer make these units, so I'm hoping they don't pull this crap on me to.

I've spent a fair amount of cash with these guys over the past year, but that's gonna stop now, they wont be seeing another penny out of my pocket after the way they've treated you, and it isn't just you neither, there are several folk that have been crapped on by these clowns lately..

Keep on at them though mate, hopefully they will sort you out with something other than that BS refund.

Had a read at your thread earlier davy, hopefully your situation doesnt develop into something like mine, (incidentally, i can guarantee that the posts in my thread by yourself, and a few others will be removed tomorrow). Theres nothing like bad service to put people off using a company. evga is one manufacturer whom i will never use again, their service is even worse than asus.

You could point out the damage to the reputation they are doing by treating you this way. Show them how many people in this thread would not buy from them as a result of their behaviour. Although I'm not sure showing them this thread would help or hinder.

Ask them, despite you not agreeing to their usual practise, to offer you goodwill in the form of a full refunded credit note or equivalent replacement of a HD5850.

You have probably tried this. It really is awful CS!

If they won't offer you something of equal performance then contact XFX again and get them properly involved.

Have you quoted what XFX have said to the retailer?

Been in contact with xfx again. Below is a full transcript of my communications with xfx.

Our technicians have been notified of your query. During standard working hours we aim to reply within a few hours however in busy periods or allowing for time differences this could reach 24 hours

[You - 1/7/2010 8:03:50 PM] Im contacting you regarding my xfx gtx280 xt video card and a fault it has developed. Lately the card has started artifacting in game once it goes above 75c, i purchased it in february of 2009 from **********. Screenshots http://i164.photobucket.com/albums/u16/setter123_photos/Photo-0005a.jpg http://i164.photobucket.com/albums/u16/setter123_photos/Photo-0005.jpg I contacted ********** who referred me to the xfx support department. The rest of my system specs are intel i7 920 DO Asus p6t dlx v2 mobo 6 gb ocz reaper 1600mhz c7 LG blu ray rom Thermaltake toughpower 750w psu Akasa eclipse 62 case Windows 7 64 bit home premium. Ive tried different driver revisions but this issue still persists. The card has always been ran at its factory settings ever since i bought it. Thank you in advance for your help regarding this issue. Yours sincerely Mr Robert coyle

[SHAUN_T - 1/8/2010 9:57:24 AM] Hi Robert, thanks for your message. So this issue has only recently been appearing after using the card without any problems for a long period beforehand? The temperatures dont seem to high, so I doubt they will be causing any problems. Does this happen in all games that you play? Please test your graphics card in a different system to see if you encounter the same issues. Kind regards, Shaun.

[You - 1/8/2010 5:25:58 PM] Hi Shaun, Ive also tried the card in my second athlon 64 4000 s939 system and it`s the same, all games ive played exhibit this issue. From looking at various posts on online forums, this is a common issue on the gtx 280 series of cards. I can play for a bit longer if i manually set the fan to 100%, on the 280 series the fan should only run at 100% once the gpu temperature reaches 85c with the fan set on auto. With auto fan enabled on mine once the temps go above 70-75c i get the vertical line artifacting in race driver grid, green horizontal lines, black texture patches and coloured dots in call of duty modern warfare 2. Thank you for your response Shaun. Regards Robert coyle

[TONY - 1/11/2010 1:19:42 PM] Hi, thanks for the extra information, in this case, probably best to contact your supplier. but if you have any other queries, please contact us again. Many Thanks. Tony

[You - 1/29/2010 4:43:23 PM] Ive been in contact with ********** concerning my gtx 280. As the card has been tested faulty theyre only offering me £123.00 as a refund. Considering that i purchased this card for £280.00 this seems a bit low. Ive enquired if they can provide me with a replacement but theyve so far refused. Is there any way in which xfx can provide me with a replacement card. A product failing when not even a year old is rather disheartening, in the meantime ive had to purchase another video card, add this to the cost of the rma, im at a considerable loss, and my system isnt performing anywhere near to what it was previously. Regards Robert coyle

[PAULV - 2/1/2010 2:37:43 PM] Hi, thanks for your message and for letting us know. **** will credit you according to market value Robert, although you dont have to take the money at all, you are still entitled to a replacement should you wish, although unlikely they will be able to replace with the same model, they should still be able to offer a comparable product. Hope all goes well, however if any queries or problems please keep us posted. Kind regards Paul

[You - 2/2/2010 4:10:24 PM] Ive been in contact with **** regarding a replacement. Still they refuse to offer me a comparable product. I can understand the refund price, what with current market value for a card such as the gtx 280. The only comparable cards to the 280 performance wise are the gtx 285 or an ati 4890 series. Both of which they have in stock.

[You - 2/3/2010 6:34:47 PM] Ive contacted **** again, and theyre still refusing a replacement comparable card. As paulv has stated above, they should be able to do so. Ive included a link of my communications with scan via their support forum. http://forums.*****.net/****-care-*****-after-sales-support/180104-xfx-280gtx-rma.html They seem to be ignoring the terms and conditions that xfx state in the warranty.

[SHAUN_T - 2/4/2010 4:44:40 PM] Hi Robert, thanks for your messages. Im afraid there isnt anything XFX can do here, we are unable to intervene between customers and resellers. All we can suggest is that you discuss your options with **** and ask them to help you out. Kind regards, Shaun.

[You - 2/4/2010 5:51:40 PM] I rung **** earlier today to ask about this situation. Regarding the refund price, the service rep i spoke to on the phone said that xfx, not **** put the value of the card at £123.11. This contradicts the above response from PAULV, 2/1/2010: **** will credit you according to market value Robert,. Aside from this contradiction theyre still refusing to give me a replacement.

Gonna have to give them a call tomorrow evening after i hear from xfx. Also had a quick look at benches for the 4890, seems like a decent card, pretty comparable to the gtx 280, would give me the option of crossfire as well.

Ive had REALLY bad cs with these idiots, I had a faulty 4870x2, didnt offer me a replacemant, had to accept £150 ...

Needless to say I will NEVER take my custom there..

Oh hell mine has just failed today and its only 11 months old. There is no way I am accepting £150!!! Thats half what i paid for it.

At least i bought it from here - so i know who i am approching!

Accept the money and get the 4890, then avoid them like the plague!

...... Had used them - they were not great when I had issues - but I managed to get the offer of a replacement card, and then a refund when they could not obtain stock. After I received the offer of a refund - they sent me a replacement card too! I sent it back.
But, for what it is worth, I don't deal with them now - I don't even check their prices for products any more.

Aside from taking them to the small claims court your running out of options. Awful CS! at least it's here for everyone to read. Their behaviour will have cost them more than sending you a new GTX285/HD4890.

i would follow this up and get what you want and not what they want.

there offer to you is disrespectful and you as a customer should get what you want in your right's and thats a replacement card of the same spec or a full refund.

if this was me or anyone then chase them up everyday on the phone.

Sounds like XFX should be avoided as well....

I must say that I have used the "unmentionable" retailer before for an RMA of a faulty TRUE heatsink. One of the heatpipes was incorrectly soldered (hanging loose) and they asked me to supply photographs. After I sent them some pics, they promptly replaced the heatsink, without me even having to send the original back. I remember speaking to a lady at the time who seemed most helpful.

I guess it depends who you get and whether they have had a bad day.
