Hi all

I have spent quite a bit of time deciding what i want, but because i'm on a budget I tried to choose components that would allow me to overclock a lot and get the most out of my money, how does this setup look?:

AMD Athlon 64 3000+ Venice 90nm (Socket 939) - OEM
£84.95 £84.95
DFI LanParty UT NF4 Ultra-D (Socket 939) PCI-Express Motherboard
£79.95 £79.95
Thermaltake Big Typhoon 4 in 1 Heatpipe (Socket 939/754/775/478) CPU Cooler
£21.95 £21.95
GeIL 1GB (2x512MB) PC3200 Value Dual Channel Kit CAS2.5
£54.95 £54.95
Tagan TG420-U01 420W ATX2.0 Silent PSU
£41.95 £41.95
Arctic Silver 5 Thermal Compound (3.5g)

Total is about £350 I really cant afford any more :) What should I be able to clock to with this spec??

Let me know what you think

Thanks

Try and get a second hand opteron for around 100, is a tad over budget but its a lot more worth it in the long run if your overclocking.

Looks good for £350, but as above, 3700+ would be ideal

Edit:

AMD Athlon 64 3700+ San Diego 90nm (Socket 939) - OEM (CP-150-AM)
£144.47
Asus A8N-E nForce4 Ultra (Socket 939) PCI-Express Motherboard (MB-088-AS)
£72.79
Corsair 1GB DDR Value Select PC3200 CAS2.5 Kit (2x512MB) (VS1GBKIT400) (MY-041-CS)
£58.69
Arctic Cooling Freezer 64 Pro CPU Cooler (Socket 754/939/940) (FG-000-AR)
£17.04
Tagan TG430-U15 430W ATX2.01 Easycon SLi Compliant Modular Silent PSU (CA-007-TG)
£55.17
Arctic Silver 5 Thermal Compound (3.5g) (AC-000-AC)
£6.46

Total inc VAT: £354.62

The 1MB cache on the San Diego core will be worth it, and you can still overclock with that mobo.

Is the AS5 really needed? Most CPU coolers come with some sort of thermal interface material pre applied. Just a way of saving some money. Maybe allowing you to get a better power supply, what graphics card are you getting krozor?

the 3700+ not only having larger cache has a higher multi than the 3000+, but then so does the 3200+ or any opteron which would oc very nicely to anything that the Athlons could manage.

also remember to have that memory on a divider to get the very best from you oc and have it on tight timings.
