Does this spider know what's going on?

Just stumbled across this video and it certainly looks like this arachnid knows that he's being helped and is letting the guy do his thing.


It does make me wonder though, could this spider actually know this? One of the theories in the video comments are that he's starved / in shock / fight-flight mode / whatever which is why he's not fighting back or running.

I'm genuinely curious as to whether this cheeky chappy actually knows what's going on.

We got any biologists or arachnologists indahouse?
 
They will often eat that stuff off the ends of their feet if its just a bit of web and dust though that one looked a bit tangled up.

I think they have at least some awareness of what is going on. As an aside Spiders can molt several times including regrowing limbs that might have become damaged or missing when they shed the exoskeleton.
 
Absolutely not. We often like to think they do because it's heart warming etc all that crapp.

Some species of spiders freeze when they think they're in danger, obviously to try and fool predators/remain hidden.
