Does useing a to powerfull power supply do any harm to a build, or make it run not so good, spec below, power supply i am thinking of getting is EVGA Super NOVA 850W PC Power Supply - Gold, because i may want to sli or get a 980 in the future, and also sli that, so question i am really asking is, will getting a higher watt power supply than i need now do any harm to performance in any way, thankyou.

i7 4790K
GTX 970
1 x ssd
1 or 2 hdd's
16gig 2400hz ram
asus hero vii motherboard

Don't think there is such a thing as a too powerful power supply ;)

The components will only draw what it needs, if anything an over spec'ed power supply is a good thing (except for your wallet) as it won't stress it that much (may run quieter if it's got a load related cooling fan)

I have run two 970s on a 850w before. One 980 would be fine but you will be better off waiting for nvidias next launches :)

The 980 is a pretty pointless but now with the 980tis

But yeah the next launch will be q1-2 next year and likely faster and more power efficient.
