Hey Guys

I got vista home premium +SP1 and wondered if it's got a built in partition software?

I have a 7200RPM 500GB internal sata HDD once it's formatted on a fresh install of vista I assume I will get about 465GB of usable space. If I was to make a partition will I get exactly half of that space at 232.5GB or will I again lose quite a lot of GB's like when the HDD is formatted?

Many thanks in advance

Yes it does.

You will get the full amount of the harddrive, but split.

With Control Panel in classic view go to Administrative Tools > Computer Management. Then along the side Storage > DisK Management, then use right click. Or for Control Panel Home System and Maintenance > Scroll down to Administrative Tools > "Create and format hard disk partitions".

many thanks for your reply

when you say you get the full amount but split that's the full amount after after formatted right? So a split of 465GB?

The HDD "shrinking" utility in Vista is quite basic, and very often does not give you the size of partitions that you want, if you find this to be the case, gParted will do a better job!

When I intalled Windows I setup two partitions. Now I want three. I have a 146gb and 785gb on a 1TB HDD.

If I move everything but windows and drivers off the small one onto the big one and click 'shrink volume' will that make that partitions smaller? And then can I make another partition in that menu?
