Because im sure its eating the space on my Raptor 74gig at alarming rates. Ive hardly any apps and stuff on compared to xp, and its using about 40gig. Thats with 3 games on too.

Wtf? are you trying to be funny?

And it wasnt about how much the windows folder uses, it was about why I keep losing hard disk space for no apperent reason.

Go into my computer and click on your raptor, and check how many folders you have called "windows" you should only have one.

When i first installed vista it didn't delete the xp files before installation; and due to having problems i re-installed it for the 2nd time, and again the pc didn't delete the old files prior to installation, so i ended up with 3 windows folders, one called "windows", one "windows000" and another with some other numbers after it.

With these three folders my new installation was weighing a hefty 49gb so i removed the extra folders and i managed to get the size down to under 20gb

I know it was old files from xp as i found some old media files still on the hdd.

Yeah thanks mate, I only have the one. I did a disk cleanup and highlited delete stuff from the recycle bin and it still left files in there and one is a hefty 4.5gig, guess I'll just have to be a bit more conservative about things.

Its not about how big the install is.. its about why I seem to be losing space mate.

Have you run disk clean up (now found under performance and information tools in control panel). Also turn off memory dumps if you are having problems with any programs crashing, I'm sure at one point Vista was doing a full memory dump every time something crashed and with 4GB of memory that soon eats up a lot of disk.
