Does Win7 get quicker over time?

As in bootup and loading of specific applications. Does it use a less intrusive Superfetch program (like Vista) too? I know silly questions are what I do best:D.


Any views and information would be great.:)

I always believed operating systems became slower over time and that is why some people do a fresh install every so often.
 
I would imagine over the course of a week or two it will learn your habits and have appropriate prefetch data.

As for fresh installs, I only really do them with Windows 7 for troubleshooting as it seems to stay fast, unlike XP or Vista. Might just be this SSD though!

any decent maintanence will keep it running fast to tho

No, that's not exactly correct.

No need to defrag on an SSD. Yes to HDD, but Windows will do a decent job of that automatically. At least it should unless you've turned it off.

Registry cleaning has no impact on speed. It can help certain issues/bugs, but often introduces more than it solves. I wouldn't recommend it unless you're confident in checking which entries your cleaner is deleting and whether that is going to cause problems or not.
 
I've had my Windows 7 installation for over a year, it's certainly slowed. By quite a significant amount.

The thing I notice most is the slow loading times of applications, and the occasional freeze every now and then.

This is the normal behaviour. Takes a couple weeks but after that it's got everything running perfectly which is fantastic, considering it just works out of the box :). It adapts well too.

If people are finding W7 slowing down then they have a problem they need to locate, there are people who are still running the RC today as well as it ran the first day they installed it. Slow loading, even with caching tends to come down to either low ram, old hd (caches have increased from an average of 16MB to 64MB) or a poorly maintained hd.

Windows defrag is great but if you turn the pc off at night it won't work. Install smart defrag 2, fully optimize, set automatic defrag options and forget. It'll keep things defrag when idle.
