I recently have got my new system up and running with Windows 7 pro 64 bit. I enjoyed the sidebar feature from vista and I would like to run it in 7, but I can't seem to enable it. I can add gadgets to my desktops, but its a pain to have them around my desktop. Does anyone know if Windows 7 have a sidebar?

The good thing about the Vista Sidebar was the always on top setting, which meant windows maximised to fill the remaining space rather than sitting underneath your gadgets (handy for widescreen/multi-monitor users willing to sacrifice some real estate). In that respect Desktop Gadgets in Windows 7 are a step backwards.

Personally I use the method linked by SiriusB, but it's not perfect. Would love to know if there's a better solution, or a better gadget platform.

I too liked the always on top sidebar function.

I found a tutorial similar to above where I copied my sidebar folder from Vista and pasted that into W7.

Works a treat and I am happy.

Each to their own I say.

Speaking of gadgets, anyone know a decent gadget that just covers all system information like cpu usage, hdd usage, memory, etc.?

There is a better method of seeing your gadgets without resorting to the Sucks Bar. Win Key + Spacebar.

Takes a second to press and you can see all gadgets behind your windows. Lose zero screen real estate and suits all monitor sizes/resolutions.

But each to their own of course.
