Does windows media play do surround sound?

ffdshow, depends on your config either use spdif for dd/dts, leave alone (soundcard might do mutli-channel automatically) or use the mixer.

I see.

@Helm

So i may have to actually pay to get surround sound on dvds mmm seems a tad OTT, but that is microsoft i serpose. Though my tv has 5.1 surround plugged into it via an amplifyer and that works. SO perhaps the dvd controls it not the player and therefore doesn't matter.

No just use ffdshow and media player classic. Far better than windows media player. It would help if you told us what sound setup you are using.

well its more of an enquirey but i have the creative 7.1 surround sound, there seems to only really be one so im sure you know what i mean with out saying its exact model.

I was just curious as when i get my new 24" i could watch dvds on it quite comfortably while using the 19" as a secondary to do other things like msn. But i was wondering if it would use my surround sound or not.

Gues ill just use that FFDshow and media player classic,.

On the pc i have this plugged into the sound card:

On my tv i have:

Called "air surround" suprisingly it works quite well by bouncing the sounds off the walls to give you surround sound.

Anyway, all i wanted to know is if media player would give me surround sound on my pc and if not what i had to do to get it as i cant always watch films on my tv if others are watching it and when i get a 24" screen i wouldn't mind watching films on it as i can go on msn too etc.
