Does windows run faster on a mac?!

But at the end it would cost more, and I can't understand why anyone would what to run windows as the main os on a mac when they can build the same spec machine for cheaper.

Certain programs just runs faster on an OSx machine than windows of the same spec, but that's more program dependent to OS than hardware or manufacture of machine.

But they won't be cheaper. Mac pros are workstations not desktops... Go spec a similar workstation on the dell or HP sites and they will come out at a very similar price. I know, I've looked before.. ;)

Very late to the party lol but why does your friend think that a mac will run windows faster then a pc? And I got an A in GCSE ICT if that helps :p
 
It's clearly BS. The mention of 'Parallel' is interesting though - probably means Parallels right? There's an oddity with the Windows Performance Index that seems to artificially inflate the Index when running in Parallels on some OSX platforms. I've observed it on my MBP for example. There's an example of it in my blog somewhere - I'll see if I can find it.

I.e. Get Index X in BootCamp, get Index X+a bit in parallels.

Sure it's an effect on the virtualisation on the measurement process rather than a real world 'it's faster'. Could that be what he's referring to do you think....?
 
It's rubbish.

As for competition with your current PC. No. Apple haven't got an update yet to their product line with SB-E in them yet. I think they're planning one for the Mac Pro in 2012 which will update their xeon platform with SB-E chips. However may be wrong.

First Class Honours in Computer Science and on track for a Masters w/ Distinction Software Engineering, and I agree with most of what has been said. Does that count? :D

As has been said, you can't overclock a Mac. A Mac with a Core 2 Quad Q9550 (there isn't one, but bear with me) couldn't perform on a par with my Q9550 (for Windows, or even OSX) simply because I've got a 40% overclock on it. But even then, they will run at roughly the same performance on the same hardware when not overclocked.

I have a Computer Science and Software Engineering degree, I'm Microsoft and Apple Cert. With several other manufactures such as HP, Tosh...

I've been playing with windows since version 2 and macs on OS9. I've been supporting windows base machines as a job for 11 years and macs for about 9.

Computers are so fast now, that the operating system (read Windows vs MacOS) makes very little difference to the performance.

Certain programs work better on one than the other, but they're doing the same job when it comes down to it.

-edit : To answer the question. No, they use the same hardware. So they'd be the same speed. There is no 'Apple' hardware in a computer, the same way there's no 'Microsoft' hardware.

Indeed. It's like saying Windows runs better on a Dell; it's nonsense.
 
I spend my life in design studios with people asking me why I don't use a mac.

Same answer for the last 21 years, too slow, too expensive.

My SR2 build came in a tad over 3K with a 256gb SSD 2TB storage drive and a 3GB 580 (No VAT) For just a thousand pounds more, I could have two stock speed CPU a last gen graphics card and 6gb of ram.

I may have more money than sense, but I'm not stupid.

OSX is nice if you like that sort of thing, but it wont run 3D studio MAX, you have to install windows.

Also my Lian Li PC-V2120 is much prettier than the current Mac Pro box.
