Wondering if this really works and if the receiver box has to be close to the actual display using it?
Does Wireless HDMI work, especially with 3d?

In my experience, no.
Having tried:
Atlona
CYP
If you're just trying to transmit across the same room and there are minimal other wireless signals in or near the same frequency, then you may have some success.
But to be honest they just don't work.
