Does wmp play mp4?

Wmp refuses to play any mp4 or mkv file, but they work fine in mpc and vlc. I have ffdshow installed so why won't it play them? I would assume that ms haven't overlooked the 2 best container formats available so there must be some explanation as to why it isn't working...

Have you set-up the FFDshow codec options to use MPEG / raw video etc?

I just installed a 3vix codec to play Mp4's...Probably a better way of doing it, but hey, it works

Yes, the problem isn't codec related though it seems, wmp plays a h.264 avi file fine, but not an mp4 one. Just seems to be the container that is the problem.
