Does your kit have to be matching?

I don't care, the performance of something is far more important to me than aesthetics.

somehow i managed to get most of my equipment to match, ive got a sony camera, sony tv, sony surround sound, sony ps3, and a few odd bits of sony kicking around. a friend of a friend thought i might have worked in a sony store :S

No not at all, Performance First & Looks second & even then it comes after the Best price.

Ideally yes. Im getting a Panasonic Blu ray player which is going to mess my Yamaha system up a bit, but when I upgrade my hi fi system im going to try and find a 'system' that I can stick with for a long time, ie Arcam or Meridian etc.

I'm male, so no it doesn't have to match.

Indeed. A few have tried and failed to get me down the aesthetics route and it's just not going to happen. My front speakers (same kind) are black and the back are rosewood and I can't hear any difference. The deal is...decorate the house however but not a peep about the tech.Haha!

I choose my hi-fi on sound quality first above all else. Having just said that I wouldn't buy any tacky silver coloured hi-fi kit unless it was really good or a fantastic bargain.

Nope and it's silly matching stuff as you limit your options and buy rubbish stuff. Compared to what you could get.

The only thing which has to match is all the speakers. minus sub.

There is no single company that offers the very best in all fields. So my answer would be NO to 'does your kit have to match'!

Nothing has to match - it's an audio system ffs, what does it matter what it looks like!? However, matching components can often complement each other, for instance pairing a pre with a similar power amp to match gain and style, or matching rears and centre with fronts.

Nope, generally I'll go for black as I like...black, but atm Im using Black missions, titanium amp and rosewood rear, center and sub...with black stands ofc :D

So looks can be nice, but lets be fair if you're not stupid, you can have some mix and still look impressive. Go for performance...lifestyle/trend stuff goes out of date, a well finished box never goes out of date (in looks!)
