maybe its just an over-reaction but this is really ****ing me off.

Over the past few months my sister has been raising funds for a school trip to Romania - Think she raised near 2k herself in the end. She was meant to head off tomorrow but took not well. Just been to the doctor and she says she can't travel. What a kick in the teeth that is after all the effort. It doesn't come much more crap than that for someone still at school! Thanks for listening.

we have all been down with a bad flu/virus here and i've had food poisoning too. I think it is a sensible move obviously as the hospitals in romania would be well dodgy but still it seems such a waste after all the effort to raise money for orphanages and disabled childrens schools that she won't be able to go and see for herself where the money is going. I'm probably more annoyed than she is right now!

Edit: and no i think the £2k will be going without her!

£2K for a school trip?!? Is that £2K per pupil, or was she paying for the entire school to go..?

No no you misunderstand mate. The pupils pay for their own way to get there. This 2k is money that she raised which would then be donated to the schools and orphanages when she gets there.

Sounds more like she's raised that for charity and the trip is secondary just to see how/where the money is being spent.

@OP, surely the school can make an exception for such a case, regardless of whether she's left by next year?

Well im not sure of how things will work out but its just the initial disappointment that getting us at the moment. I guess it would have been a lot worse if she had taken ill over there cause they are bound to be some of the most ropey hospitals around!

aww good stuff - at least he got away in the end! I finally think I am calming down a bit now about the whole thing but i was pretty ragin earlier - nothing we can do!

Nope i always said I would do my degree first (comp sci) and then maybe apply for air traffic control. We'll I got a job on the day my results came out and its pretty decent starting wage so i can't face taking a reduced salary to start ATC training and definitely have no money for pilot training. Saying that though either of those jobs would be a dream - only problem with ATC though is that all the jobs are in England or Scotland and no way I'm going there. Think will just have to keep the flying as a hobby! I think i was speaking to you on here before but can't be sure. You a j'towner too being just up the road from it?

aww nice one mate - i did my placement with Microsoft in South Dublin. Brilliant Year but like you say its so expensive. Thats why I chose to look for jobs up here rather than go back down there. Aviation is an amazing hobby - unfortunately there isn't too much exciting happening in our skies at all apart from the odd tornado floating around every few weeks or so. Computing + aviation job would be fun. If you find one get in touch! I worked many summers up at Aldergrove and not really too many jobs i'd do apart from ATC and flying. Aircraft engineering be good too but thats too big a career change to consider and also I wouldn't want to give up my monday-friday job for lots of weekend and nightshift work! Good luck with the placement!
