My dog is a bit wierd in that after you take him for a walk, he won't settle down and sleep afterwards. Just paces round or asks to go out (in the rain) where he doesn't do anything other than run up and down the garden, even when he is obviously tired out. I have noticed over the last few weeks this is a recurring thing, after a walk he just won't settle as usual. I thought I wasn't taking him far enough so a 3 mile walk later, no difference.

He is a king charles cavalier and is 8.5 months old. No health issues other than a dodgy stomach (born with it, comes and goes, vet says it happens, cant remember name of condition). At this present moment he is pacing in circles near my door, no idea what he wants :/

That's quite normal, as far as I know. My parents' dog (also a spaniel) is the same, and he's almost 10.

Dodgy stomach? Pacing in circles, my staffy does this before a giant turd. Maybe his stomach is bad and he can't be sure if he needs to poop or not.

I imagine it's something to do with him being 8 months old - when my dog was that age she was forever sprinting around in circles.

Do you have a garden? If so, it can't hurt to let the dog out and leave the door open a tad.

Yep same with my parents spaniel, and he's been clipped.

Runs around like a mad dog for a while after exercise but then suddenly decides to fall a sleep

Our dog does this, he loves being outside & never wants to come in, we let him onto the garden and he'll be out there for hours if we don't fetch him in playing with his ball on the end of a rope & throwing it around the garden.

No walk is ever long enough apart from when he goes with the GF to her horses & gets 4 hours in the field off the lead to run around with his ball & do as he pleases.
