Long story short...moving things around, and i've somehow managed to scuff my monitor, it has a small 1cm x 1xm scuff mark on the screen that no manner of wipes appears to be able to fix.

Is there anything i can do to fix it? Luckily im planning on a new monitor anyway but it's going to severly cut the resale price when i come to sell it on :(

Yep, toothpaste is something ive used in the past on mobile phone screens, takes a while but it worked very well.

oh? interesting, literally just put a bit of toothpaste on a microfibre cloth and wipe? forcefully or gentle? this sounds interesting.

Here's a before image to see what i'm dealing with, i'll go and give it a go if i can find my micro fibre cloth.

Hmm that might be trickier as it seems you've scraped away the coating too, might even make it worse without knowing a bit more about the construction - thought you meant the casing not the panel.

Well, i thought i'd give it a go anyway and:

Did the trick, i've tried looking from multiple angles to see if i've damaged the coating at all but it seems ok, can't see any marks apart from a little bit of toothpaste residue that i'll get off with some proper screen cleaner tomorrow.

the scuff in the second picture was to the bottom left of the camera flash

What did you scruff it with ?

It looked like a paint mark.

It was scuffed by my headphones. The simple way of putting it: monitor was on the floor, headphones on my head, i stood up, headphones flew off my head (because im an idiot and forgot they were on there) and flew straight into the monitor :p

Just turned it off again and had a good inspection of the area, apart from the odd finger print where i need to give it a proper clean there doesn't seem to be any remaining marks at all! :D

I wonder if you're right gazzamcg, it may have been the silver paint from the bottom section of my headphones. I tried cleaning it the second i noticed it (5 seconds after it happened) and assumed it was a proper scuff due to not coming off no matter how much i rubbed it.

Frankly you are quite lucky, the headphones (depending on how heavy they are and what part hit the monitor) could have easily killed a bunch of pixels.

Count your blessings! ;)

Probably lucky it hit it at a downwards angle rather than a straight on whack :D. Sennheiser HD555s, so fairly chunky, but not very heavy.

Must admit i'm surprised how durable the 555s are, mine have slammed to the ground, been run over by my chair and chewed on by the baby so many times yet the only sign of damage is a small crack to the plastic on the left :D

515s and 595s in the past never lasted as well as these have.

Aye i've had mine for a few years and they've also had their fair share of knocks but there is only a few scratches on them here and there.

I don't think they would survive the hammer bashing that you would have game them if they permanently damaged the lcd though.
