I just need to share my frustration.

Today I went and ordered and picked up the case, mobo and RAM for my home server (already got the HDDs from OcUK ;) )

I got home, put it all together and went to plug it into my monitor, I looked at the back panel connectors and thought ****! I don't have a VGA cable (my main comp uses a DVI and the monitor has DVI and VGA connectors). So I went on the website of the local hardware supplier and ordered the cheapest VGA cable they had.

My girlfriend who was out shopping picked my cable up and brought it home, I plugged it into my monitor and went to plug it into the server and again thought ****, the cable had a female connector the same as the motherboard. I checked on the webpage and there was no mention of it being a M-F cable in the title or description, there was just a thumbnail that if you clicked on it showed the M and F connectors! I'd just assumed that is was a standard M-M monitor cable as I didn't look at the pic.
The saying "Assumption is the mother of all ****-ups!" is spot on.

I can't get a replacement as it turns out all their M-M cables are out of stock. So I'll probably just ask the IT guys to swap it for the right one when I get into work on monday ;)

Now I have a built computer sitting next to me that I can't finish until monday, all I can do is turn it on to check the fans and HDDs spin up LOL (they do btw) :D

Have a look for a DVI to VGA convertor, you may have one lying around that came with your main rig video card. If you find it, use the existing DVI cable to finish the PC.

lol sorry to hear that mate... number of times ive done something like that is countless, rather comical in a way

ive gone n bought meself a hdmi cable to run me pc monitor off. since i use dual monitors its a perk being able to watch movies in high def. :)

hope u get it all sorted.

Good idea and thanks, unfortunately the only converter I have is a male DVI to female VGA, that would allow me to use a VGA cable to connect my monitor and GFX card which only has DVI connectors but no good for this situation.

It's just one of those things that happen to us :D, on the positive side the 2Gb of RAM I put into my gf's laptop went without a hitch.

Oh and welcome to the forums djcrowle :)
