...this may or may not screw up the CSO2 stats and maybe even the weekly news

We are working on updating the stats server for v6. We will need to take the web interface to the stats down for several days. We will therefore not do this all at once, but starting Monday, we will have the stats update down a bit so our update can catch up. The actual stats will be updating, just the web interface for people to check their stats will be down.

It's not all bad news though - It does at least mean that the v6 client must be progressing (at last) :)

much better CPU ID for a start, currently it's down to the cores themselves to question the CPU as to what optimisations it supports - if the client identified the CPU itself then you could get work best suited to your chip rather than wasting time on unsuitable work

also I think some pentium mobile chips weren't able to get QMD work as they couldn't be identified as Intel chips by the current method

yes that's exactly what it could mean - save wasting a load of power on doing the wrong work or wasting a powerful chip doing work that an older chip could do in about the same time

as for QMDs there's been no more news recently - I think they're concentrating on the v6 client and testing the GPU client as the QMD results didn't come out as expected

you can see the process of all the advanced clients here

the GPU seems to be the furthest advanced of the three so far

May 2006 We have started building a GPU cluster to test the GPU port of FAH/Gromacs and to get some initial results to make sure that everything is working well. Before putting this into FAH, we need to make sure that both the science is validated (we get the right answers, only quicker!) and that the GPUs are up to being run 24x7 on FAH. I'm most concerned about the latter point and so this "burn in" test will be important. Assuming all goes well, we'll start the porting to FAH, with the hope (but not an official release date) to release this by the end of the 2006 calendar year.

there's always several new things in the pipeline - it's just the waiting for them bit that gets a bit annoying :o

The EOC Stats are still working, so it doesn't really matter that Stanfords are down.
It's not due to happen until Monday - the EOC stats should run off the main text file anyway so if they can keep those going you won't notice any difference in the EOC stats

However the CSO2 and the Weekly News use the team stats page so that could cause problems
If we can still get stats from that text file then it'll just mean the news/CSO2 production figures will be a few hours down on the usual

Hopefully it won't take too long and won't disrupt anything too much - just wanted to give a heads-up really :)

my Girlfriend's machine was giving that message but then she turned it "not on" for the night so I can't check which server it was

it's not related to the stats server updates though, firstly they won't have started yet and secondly it was only going to affect the stats pages anyway and everything in the background won't be touched (or at least that's the plan :p)
