I am about to do a clean Windows 8.1 install on a new PC and wondered if I have bought the wrong version of the install DVD. I have the (still unopened) 8.1 OEM DVD which I have just received from the OCUK Shop. After the next couple of weeks, I won't have a DVD drive... and that is where my issue starts.
As far as I have read, I think that if I ever want to do a clean install on my new PC, I will have to have the OEM DVD and drive to do it with. I see the OEM 8.1 DVD does not permit me to use the Win8.1 ISO on a bootable USB.
I also have an old Retail Win7 DVD which is currently installed on and registered to my Mac Pro Bootcamp drive.
If I was to return the unopened 8.1 OEM DVD and purchase the (more expensive) 8.1 retail license from the MS Store and do the ISO download, it looks like I will still have to install Win7 first before it would allow me do the initial install.
I am wondering if this would then allow me to do future installs entirely from the bootable ISO or whether I would still need a DVD drive.
Could one of you clear this up for me please?
