Well I am the only one on my IT course at A2-level, that makes me officially a geek, the upsides are that there is a 2:1 teacher: pupil ratio and I dont have to wait ages to get coursework marked :D

Is anyone else here doing Applied ICT on the ocr board?

Advanced excel and use of databases afaik. I did Computing - it was a much more interesting course, with the programming etc thrown in. I really enjoyed that, but I'm sure IT would be ok.

Does that mean you do coding or stuff, or advanced how to use excel?
bits of coding if you do double award, otherwise stuff pretty much unrelated to IT as we know it.

ICT is actually a "soft option" according to cambridge. I'd have to agree, it is nothing more than GCSE IT really, and I didnt do that as it is worthless as everyone should be able to use word and excel to basic levels already. I did computing A2 and it is a really good course, interesting and useful.

I start my Alevels on thursday I took this, dont know about my class size though. I expect it to be just over 20.

You think that's geeky, I did an AS in computing without any teachers (in fact I practically taught most of it to the one other person that did it).

I'm doing the A2 Edexcel Course.

Hate the computers I have to use though.

Is crossfire at school too much to ask?  :D

I've been looking forward to computing because it's the one i feel i will enjoy the most and learn something useful to me

only my first day and the teacher was already askign me how to go about getting her stuff after her motherboard died. She taught me GCSE ICT for the last two years so she knows I wont be doing much for a lil while :D

lol @ ICT.

All that does is get you further acquainted with Office.

I worked my arse off in Computing and most people who went on to do computer science or related degrees at uni said if they'd have done ICT it would have been useless as it gives you no groundwork for uni.

Depends what you do at uni. I imagine it's more useful if you go on to do Information Systems or something at uni, rather than a technical subject.

Access sucked bigtime. We stuck CS and UT on the system instead :p.
LOL, that brings back memories, we had UT on the college LAN playing people from other courses :D we had to run it from our USB drives though, Diploma students vs. Foundation students, lmao :D

then i found this forum and learned more in 5 mins here than i ever did at college
