Doing something wrong?

Hello again, since I got my shiny new gpu I've really just been in awe of its performance gain over the previous card I had (hd5670 1gb), but time has come to see where exactly I can go with it, so I started to overclock it, using CCC to up clock settings in increments of 25MHZ then run a bench test see if any problems arose, I downloaded Unigine - but after a few runs it still detected my gpu as the HD3000 and not the 7950 (which I dont see how, I remember manually disabling that ages ago, and my motherboard requires you to have a discrete gpu so it's not as if I've plugged the cable into the wrong place) so I stopped using that, instead started using 3d mark 11 - the free version that only allows the p settings, the first time I ran it (stock settings a few days ago) I got a graphics score of 7293 - graph shows its within average score for similar systems. With my overclock (managed to get it to 1200MHZ) the score im getting is considerably lower - 4420, im somewhat confused by this, I kept the memory clock settings the same and the only change I made at this point was to increase the gpu clock and this somehow decreased my score?

Just to be sure I decided to run 3d mark vantage ( old I know but I have the full version thanks to it coming free with my motherboard) and I got the same results - the bench mark I did with extreme settings at gpu stock settings achieved a graphics score of 15k - where as the score im getting atm with 1200mhz gpu clock and 1300mhz memory clock settings achieves a graphics score of 8.2k

I know it's most likely a simple solution but as it stands I dont know where exactly I'm going wrong and why my score is decreasing and not increasing and would love some advice, many thanks

I started off with stock settings and increased gradually by 25Mhz, the first few runs were using unigine but after that it was either version of 3d mark "x", np I'l get it moved, just thought since it was oc I'd put it here, but the gpu section probably makes more sense.
