Dolby Vision Dropping Out?

Hello All,

My Denon AVR-X2700H has developed a fault when playing Dolby Vision content. I have a LG-OLED65B9PLA which plays Dolby Vision content from the built TV apps without issue. I also have a Nvidia Shield (2019) which if connected directly to the TV directly plays Dolby Vision without issue (ATMOS sound via eARC). However, if I connect the Shield to the TV via the Denon Dolby Vision the picture drops out every few seconds.

I’ve tried several HDMI 2.1 Cable’s (Ultra High Speed eARC Dolby Vision etc) with no avail.

I’ve tested all the cables, Shield > TV, and the cable used to connect the AMP > TV independently:

Shield > TV (no issues)

Shield > AMP > TV (Dolby vision dropouts)

I can only conclude the issue is with the Denon.

Place of purchase thinks it’s a handshake issue, but it’s started out of the blue after a few months of working without issue…any thoughts before it goes back?

I think it's a known issue on LG TVs and certain AVR's. The latest LG firmware was meant to fix it but people are still reporting issues over on avforums.

Thanks for the suggestion,

Just strikes me as odd that this issue appeared "out of the blue", worked fine for "Falcon and the Winter Solider" but impossible to watch "Loki" (Disney Plus)

Indeed as above. It was specifically starting with there 5.10.04 for the 2019 models, so if you upgraded to that at some point, it introduced the problem. Firmware 05.10.15 has been released to try and resolve it to a mixed reception. For some it seems to have gone, others still have the issue. If you have not got the update yet, worth trying I suppose, see if its available over the air otherwise can do it via USB as can see LG uploaded the firmware to there support page: https://www.lg.com/uk/support/software-firmware?csSalesCode=OLED55B9PLA.AEK

Good shout!

I've updated the TV firmware and it seems to have fixed it!

I was on auto-update, but when I opened up the settings the TV was actually downloading an update...

Gone from:
05.10.04 to 05.10.15

I'm afraid that .15 introduces a new bug, it sometimes can wipe the hdmi edid info from Denon range of AV amplfiers.

Something to look forward to!

How does that manifest itself?

I've noticed (before the update) the Handshake between Sky Q / AMP / TV is breaking at some point and a reboot of Sky Q is required, it's a blank screen when the Sky Q box is on, place in standby (via remote) and you see a flash of the menu screen for ~3 seconds then the it goes into standby...no picture until a full reboot (actually fitted a WiFi plug to the Sky Q box last night to make this easier...)
