Hi there,

I've a domain virgin and just wanted to find out a few things if possible. I'm wanting a domain to use as an email address.

I'm looking at Tsohost purely just because it's at the top of the list on this site's review page. If I take out a domain name, how many email addresses can I use on it? And would it be pop3 capable?

Cheers :)

10 mailboxes on the Lite account, 25 on the standard and 100 on the Pro account.

POP3 would be available.

Or you could look at using Google Apps with your domain instead. About 7GB of storage plus POP3 and IMAP support on the free account. Or 25GB on the premium account.

Thanks for the fast reply!

When / where do I get the option for the Lite, Standard and Pro accounts?

I just see the £6.99 a year for .com and .net domains etc?

Thanks! :)

Your £6.99 pays for the registration of your domain name... the actual hosting is on top of that (that's your webspace, mail boxes etc).

As the person above says, if you just want email at this stage, Google apps is a good choice for getting up and running cheaply. Google also do domains for $10. So if you just want email and no website, then maybe that's the route to go down. :)

Just buy the domain and use Google Apps instead. You can use the Gmail interface (which is great) plus POP3 and IMAP (which is vastly superior to POP3, there's really no need for POP3).

It's free too :p.

Oh I see.

So when you buy a domain name, you basically just get that. And then you have to pay whoever or what ever company to be your mail server?

I see heh, was just expecting to pay for the domain and be able to use it, silly me :P

I'm going to have a look into that google apps. I'm a bit lost as to what it actually is. Do I just make a gmail account and replace the gmail email address?

All this seems like a bit of a faff :P

With Google Apps, you will setup your domain name to point to Google servers (instructions will be provided when you signup), and then you will be able to log in to the Gmail interface by going to mail.yourdomain.com. Then sign-in with a username you setup [email protected]

Or of course you can use the POP3 or IMAP settings with Outlook or Thunderbird.

Thanks guys much appreciated, it's all clear now (I think!) :D

How many email boxes / email address can I have on each domain with google apps, or does that part work through the company I buy the domain from?
