Alright guys, it's been a while since I was into the web design stuff but I'm looking at setting up a SmugMug site. So far, so easy but I want to use my own domain with it.

Currently I have G Suite/Google apps using my own domain. E.g. [email protected] is my primary email address (plus others) and I can log in to Google services via http://mail.mydomain.net and http://calendar.mydomain.net etc. It all works very well.

The domain was bought from 123-reg, actually my Dad owns it and pays for multiple iterations of which I just use the .net version.

My question is, can I continue to use mydomain.net email accounts on Gmail, and host my SmugMug site properly? What exactly do I need to do? I'm guessing I need to get into 123-reg and change stuff there. G Suite seems to have some options but I think only domain forwarding..

Thanks!

Thanks @touch. Confirmed the domain is using the 123-reg nameservers. I'm assuming my Gmail/G-Suite was previously set-up via MX records (that's done in the 123-reg control panel I'm guessing?), I think that's the bit I'm struggling to figure out/reverse engineer since it was so long ago.

The SM guide there makes total sense and even said at the bottom;
As long as you do not change the other DNS records, like the MX records, your domain email and subdomains connected to blogs and such will continue to work.
So hopefully I don't need to worry about my Gmail still working? :)

Yep, leave all the other records as they are and everything will still work.

All you need to do is add the 2 CNAME records that the guide says, don't need to do anything to any of the other records.
Hey. So I'm finally coming back to this (well my Dad has been busy and is actually getting round to transferring control of the domain to me!).

Before he transfers ownership to me he wanted to check I knew what I was doing. So he's sent a screenshot of the current setup. I've cut out the MX records which all show Google addresses and as we discussed they're not relevant. But I have the below already;

As I mentioned if I go to http://mail.mydomain.net I get to my Gmail so I presume I leave that CNAME record there. But what are the two 'A' records doing and do I leave them or delete them? I guess according to the SM guide I am adding a 'www' 'CNAME' entry so that is something that doesn't already exist.

Not to confuse things but what I'm wary of is that currently I can control where my domain redirects to through G-Apps and I'm not sure what I need to do to stop that happening :confused:

NB: That IP is a 123-reg IP address.

Thanks.

Right. My Dad just transferred the domain to my account on 123-reg but unfortunately it has wiped all the settings above. Trying to find what exactly I need to do to reinstate my G Suite email firstly :o Where do I start?
