I've had a personal domain with webmail from dotbob for a number of years. in 2013 I extended this for 5 years with them.

Today my email stopped working so I went on to dotbob.com to see if there were any announcements. No joy, website down I thought. I assumed it was a simple issue at their end that would be resolved in due course.
Just as an aside I checked the who record for initially my domain which was all in order, but then dotbob.com. The domain for dotbob expired last year, and their facebook hasn't been updated in similarly long time.
It looks to me like they have collapsed, and that it has just taken a while for the webmail to have the plug pulled on it.
I've never had this before and am concerned I've lost my domain.

Can anyone advise on how I can recover this domain without the original reseller being available?

Nominet control UK domain names you should contact them if you have issues with the accredited registrar.

If you create an account with nominet and use the email address you used when registering the domain you should see the domain listed in the dashboard.

I think you can transfer the domain to another registrar via nominet for £10 ish.

Just give them a call if you have issues, very helpful!

I've emailed nominet to see if they can help but this was a .com address from a US registrar so I'm not sure they can assist. Thanks for the advice though.

Is there no precedent for recovering a .com domain where the registrar has gone bust?

We are currently facing an attack on the OrderBox DNS servers, on account of which the DNS records (A, MX, PTR, etc...) could not be fetched.

Below are the IP addresses which have been null routed due to the attack:
