Currently trying to move 3 of my domain names to another place and its driving me absolutely insane... done this before on other hosts but this one is taking the mick...

1) Changed the primary and secondary DNS server of my desired domain name, to that of the other server...
2) Went to the other server, into cPanel and added the domain as an addon domain...
3) Waited until the DNS of the domain had updated with the new domain servers but it just doesn't seem to work :@

Asked technical support of the new place, and despite coming to England on a floating door (assuming the tech support centre is here...) this is the reply I got... which doesn't seem to make any sense whatsoever

If you want to add the domain which is not hosted with XXX as addon domain then you need not change the name servers . You need o update the main domain ip with in the name servers used by the addon domain. When the ip for the addon domain is updated with the main domain ip it will work as an addon domain. You need to add the addon domain through cpanel.

eeerm, what? Surely you usually just change the nameserver of the domain to theirs and grab it on their end? why do I need to touch anything to do with IPs, how and which ones? she doesn't seem to make any sense.

Thanks

They're correct but confusingly so. What you've done is also correct! You're probably seeing a DNS cache update delay - try again later :)

they told me you have to pay to use their nameservers, so I've had to change the A to their IP address, which seeeeeems to be working :P

exactly what I thought :P thats why it took me so long to figure it out... tech support were basically saying random BS to try and trick me into spending money on something that is usually free... so yeah :o

Change the A IP to them for anyone else searching topics :P
