I'm having second thoughts about the domain name I purchased recently. I did not purchase the domain name I was after originally due to its high asking price as seen in this thread.

1. Is it best to have a domain name that contains your full name as an online portfolio?

2. Is it best to have a Unique, short and memorable domain name as an online portfolio?

Currently I prefer number 2 because of the following reasons:

  • Unique, short and memorable
  • My first name is often misspelt even though it's a well known Christian name (for example: if I told someone I had a full name domain name, they may enter it wrongly)
  • Having a full name domain in your email address seems a little awkward to me
  • Privacy. I'm not keen on exposing my full name especially when I want to use the domain name other uses rather than solely for an online portfolio
However, I've come up with the following reason for number 1:

  • Looks more professional in your CV
As you can see, I'm short of reasons for number 1 :o :p

I would like to read other members' opinions to help me justify my recent domain name purchase :p

Thanks for your replies everyone. I've decided to go with both options and using them for different things :)

at a guess so that people can't google him, as friends/family always like to do, and then come across this thread, and then from there see all posts by that user and find something embarassing for him?

I hope this doesn't happen to me but I very rarely talk about personal things on forums anyway :p
