a friend of a friend decided to sign up to a advertisement/domain name package with yell.com and they have given her the domain name.

problem is she wants to be able to use this domain name on a newly purchased hosting package with tso host so i got onto yell.com to ask about a contol panel so that i could enter nameservers for the hosting co, they said they dont do it that way, the way that it would be possible is to do a domain transfer which i dont have any experience with.

They are asking for an IPS tag?

If they want an IPS Tag, then it will be a UK domain. I use ukreg for my uk domains, not bad price. Another alternative is 123-reg. You will need to create an account at either one, or another domain registrar.

UKRegs IPS tag is FASTHOSTS
123-Reg Tag is 123-REG

Once you have an account with one, ask yell to make the change, then go back to your control panel and import the domain. Shouldn't cost you anything until the renewal date.

Give it a few hours to import, then you can make nameserver changes yourself.

Best way to learn is to try it yourself. I presonally prefer ukreg over 123-reg.

I have e-mailed tso host about it.

For future reference, if this ever crops up again, do i need to just create an account with 123reg (free?) and get it transferred over?

no just purchase it with 123 reg and then change the name servers to point to the TSO hosting.
