Vidahost or Tsohost seem good companies but I'm a complete noob and neither of them explain how I set up the nameservers.

When I register the domain I need to link to a site where I host my stuff. Do I just change the namserver from say
"ns1.blahblahhost.co.uk" to
"www.blahblahprovider.co.uk/myname/myfolder/index.html"

And is it possible to edit/change the nameservers once they're setup?

Thanks

If you register it with them, it is done automatically. The only time you have to change the nameservers is when you transfer a domain.

Thanks but I dont understand. If my stuff is hosted elsewhere how does the domain registration server know where it is automatically? Do the nameservers point to my stuff? Or have I got the wrong end of the stick? (I'm keeping the domain registration and web hosting with separate companies) Thanks again...

If you have your domain registered with one company and your webspace with another you just need to find out what the nameservers are for the company/server you have the webspace with.

So for example I have my hosting with Dreamhost and some of my domains with Daily, so I just go into my Daily control panel and change the nameserver to ns1.dreamhost.com. Then I just pop onto my dreamhost control panel and add the domain there.

Thanks Skyfall, that sounds very useful. But can the nameserver point to the subfolder on the web host directly? At the moment I've got a very long web address with several sub folders etc (its at uni) and I'm trying to register my own domain which points straight to it.

Can you tell us who you have the space with and who you have the domain with as it may help us to help you... Are you using free hosting?

My free hosting is at uni at the moment, for example:
http://itsuite.it.brighton.ac.uk/jjl/index.html

I havent got a domain registered yet... thinking of vidahost, but not sure how to get the domain server to forward to my uni site... ALso do I forward to a specific page or a directory?
