Ok - i'm being thick here.

I have a new VDS PRO hosting setup with reg1 for a "project" i'm sorting. I have the domains all held at 123 reg.

Can someone help me point the domain at the hosting cos i cant for the life of me make it work!

You need to get bind running on your VDS, then setup two subdomains on different ips to use as nameservers then go into reg123 and create nameservers there and use the subdomains you created along with telling 123 the ip of them.

There must be a simpler way of doing it than that?

Setting up bind and subdomains sounds like a long way of solving what should be a simple problem. I've got 10 other domains with 123-reg and pointing at other hosting no probs, and not once had to do anything so complicated.

Thats because they will run some kind of DNS server like Bind, or if the run windows the windows eqiv. As far as i know thats the only way

Surely register1 support would be the best people to ask?

In any case, they *will* be providing a DNS service. The other posters are assuming it's a VDS in the traditional sense (ie. a bare, full root server) which it isn't AFAIK, it's a standard virtual hosting package :).

Try ns1/ns2/ns3.register1.net.
