Not sure where to put this thread as it doesn't seem to fit the HTML, Graphics section...

Basically I'm asking who you have registered a domain name with and why.
A mate wants to set up a website / email forwarding address for his company.
I've got mine with domains.com and have looked at 1-2-3reg but unsure if there are any better deals out there.
Admittedly it's only a fiver or so....

What's out there?

Domain questions usually go in the HTML section.

I use Godaddy.com for my domains. There's also namecheap.com. They are all pretty much the same.

I'm using Dreamhost for mine currently who seem fine (just moved my other domain to them last month). I do use Google Apps for email for the domains though.

Mine are through Vidahost, they do my hosting as well.

You just need to be careful of that, with some hosts they may actually own the domain them-self, which ultimately stops you moving host company, unless you want to buy a different domain, or pay a premium for your current one. Not saying Vidahost do that though.

I use heartinternet for my domains, have complete control over dns settings etc, and they have a one click button to set your domain up with google apps which i thought was pretty useful

Getting confused here..

First off it says..

but then when you go to order it it say it's extra.. or is that something different?

Cheers, that's much clearer..

Depends how professional he wants to look I guess.

Hosting is another 2.50 a month :o

email forwarding is where you can have emails that are sent to say [email protected] forwarded onto another email address ie [email protected]

what you;d be paying for is to be able to have [email protected] as it's own email account where you can also send emails from that address

Not exactly. You're paying for them to host your e-mails, you can receive e-mails from your domain regardless of paying for them by setting up the DNS to point to an alternative host, for example googlemail (or even your own mail server). You use the MX records to do this.

123reg here, easy to use control panel and if you move hosts its easy to update the nameservers and you don't need to faff about with your previous host.
