Domain renewal

Hi.

Apologies if this should have gone somewhere else in the forum instead of General Discussion.

I have a org.uk domain which I registered with Godaddy few years ago. During renewal, they bump up the price and I switched to Namecheap. I have a feeling that Namecheap are doing somthing similar as my renewal for next year is £7.
Is this the going rate?

Is domain renewal like Breakdown cover?

I went with 123Reg in the end. Nil for this year and £12 next year.
