Domain Tagging Issue

Recently my hosting account with a certain 1 and other 1 (hint) company was deleted earlier than i expected.

This has lead to the automated deletion of the Tags on 2 of my domain names which are still registered for another year.
I'm told by nominet that i must pay £30 for them to retag these (i imagine its a simple process for a stupid price)

Just wondering if there is a simple and cost effective way to resolve my problem and get my domains hosted again, because i'm currently paying for hosting, but thanks to this misshap my domain isn't pointing at the DNS servers of my host.

Note.
my new host can't host .co.uk domains hence me having problems.

Stupid 1&1....domains and hosting should be independent :/

Is the domain registered with them? Yelleth at their support for being twits - that is, unless their T&Cs lay out what's what (which they probably do:()

I'm afraid there's no way to retag a domain with Nominet without paying the standard £15 fee per domain for a tag change. Your old registrar can't do it because they've detagged it and your new registrar can't do it because it's not yet under their tag.

Your only possible course of action is to suggest politely to 1&1 that they pay the fee as it was their mistake. However, I can't see you getting very far with them.

i hate 1&1

anywhere i can go to review and put down their 'great offers' cose they're only great when they know they'll be getting your money...as soon as you cancel, they don't care about you.

To be fair, if you've terminated your contract, they're within their rights to detag the domain. One would expect however that, as a domain registrar, they would continue to host the domain on a parking page until you've decided what to do.

*shrug*

Big companies work like clockwork and throw the book at you. Harsh, yes. Fair? Debatable.

From a business point of view I understand...I have little time for people who can't read T&Cs (unless they're complex legalese...how convenient for <insert big company>) - but from a personal point of view (and having been there with 1&1, and back, and got a t-shirt or two), it's surprising and frustrating.

Did you pay for the domain for a year, or were you paying for a 'domain and hosting' package monthly? Either way, still slightly harsh.

It seems a very strange practice. When one of our clients doesn't renew a hosting package on a domain they have registered with us, it reverts back to 'free parking' status. Often, the client then decides they do want the hosting after all and purchases another year.

By severing your relationship and detagging your domains, 1&1 have basically lost any chance of future business from you.

Unless of course it was a mistake..
