Hi,
I used to be a member here years ago but lost all login details so had to rejoin.

I have a problem.

I have hosted a website for a client for many years. They have gone with a new person for a redesign ( which I am happy about )
Currently the hosting and domain name is in my account on Tsohost ( I know :( , but looking to get away from them)

I am getting the new person to set up their own hosting where ever they choose and I was just going to transfer over the domain name.

This is where I think I may have a problem. I have just looked into the contact details of that domain name and the details in there are not me and the email address is wrong. Lucky I have had the domain locked. I have had the domain since 2006 and it has always been with Tsohost with me paying for it, from what I can work out the details in there look to be from maybe whoever had the domain before me, but I never entered them.

Question is the new site is almost finished, whats the best plan of action from me?

If I update these details will it lock me from transferring for 60 days?

Do I have to update these details to actually transfer as i dont have access to that email address.

If it does lock then is there a way around it by changing nameservers and some dns my end till the unlock period is over?

Sorry its absolutely ages since I have done anything like this and I don't really know how to do the whole transferring thing

Thanks in advance

Update domain details to current/new owner and make sure they have a registrar in place. Once details have updated, begin transfer of domain to their registrar - this typically involves them creating the domain with their registrar for transfer and supplying you with the new registrar tag; you then use that tag to transfer the domain out of TsoHost.

Updating details shouldn't prevent you transferring out from TsoHost but, if it does then as you've mentioned, change the nameservers to their DNS provider/hosting and transfer when you can.

Edit - On a separate note, if you're thinking of getting rid of TsoHost then look at transferring the rest of your domains to another registrar (this can be separate to your hosting provider and ideally the better solution). Plenty of threads on here about cheapest domain providers etc.

@visibleman Sorry for the late reply, domain name got transfered over to there goDaddy account. So thats all good now.

Now for me I have one domain name that I use for my google email I'm grandfarthered in to the free version of that.
And then one domain that just points to a Heroku instance . Cant wait to get away from TsoHost to be honest. Been with them since Vidahost
