domains and email addresses

i've just bought a domain from 123-reg with some cheap hosting. it says i get pop3 email accounts with it which i was expecting to be able to set my own up i.e. [email protected] but they give you pre-set email addresses that are [email protected] and charge you per month per email address for the ones that you want to customise. if i cancel it would i be able to set my own email addresses up if i bought and hosted it from another site ?

Are you sure that's your email address and not your username? I can't see why 123-reg would give you an email address like that if you're paying for a hosting service.
 
ive bought and hosted a website on another site before and i was allowed to create my own email addresses at the domain name. however shortly after buying this one from 123-reg i got an email with a list of pre-set email addresses so i checked on their website and they charge 83p per month per email addresses to have it customise for my domain name :(

the who is lookup is showing the domain in my name. dunno if its best to cancel the order or cancel just the hosting and transfer it to another site for hosting. i assume this is free ?

Yes it is free to do, you just need to change the name servers etc :) (Ask your new host) - is it just for emails/not a lot of space if so drop me an email and I can give you some free hosting :)

thanks for the offer but i've found out how i can used my own custom email address. i have to forward my custom address to one of the pre define addresses.

all i gotta do now is find my username and password for my demon account so i can turn on pop3 and smtp in my account as atm i can only receive emails and not send them LoL

To setup my own custom e-mail address I just bought the domain without hosting and installed google mail as part of the google apps suite (www.google.com/a). Its a great solution because you get an IMAP account which you can view on your own machine via outlook or apple mail like myself or you can configure it so that you can go to mail.yourdomain.com and log into googlemail on the web
