I want to get to grips with symfony, PHP framework. Would like to know if anyone can donate a free hosting account, on linux, with MySQL and preferably with SSH access.

Don't get paid for a while otherwise i'd go pay Register1 a visit

XAMPP is an easy to install Apache distribution containing MySQL, PHP and Perl. XAMPP is really very easy to install and to use - just download, extract and start.
