Donating your body to science when you die

Happy thread amirite?!

I need to get my act together and write a will. Some of the examples I've seen involve explaining your wishes for your funeral, which is something I've not really given much thought previously.

Most folk in my family have been cremated, but my mum has mentioned donating her body to science. This sounds like a worthwhile idea to me as I like the idea of being useful to someone, rather than just being buried or scattered somewhere.

Does anyone know much about the process, or any worthwhile causes?
 
Just bear in mind her body might not be used quite how you'd expect.

Of course thats 'murica where even dead bodies for science are commercialised.

Personally I love the idea of my dead body being blown up in an IED blast test, but each to their own.

Our lass says it's illegal.....spoilsport.


But yes, possibly, I have thought about it, but undecided.
 
Many hospitals have surgery students who can use bodies donated to science for training purposes. However they will reject volunteers if they aren't pristine. Car crash victims etc.

My father has requested his body be donated to science. He lives in Prague though so I have no idea how the logistics of it all are going to work. I know this much, he's pickled himself so much over the years that he now looks like an angry pepperami so I'm not sure how much use his corpse will be.

Me personally? We sorted out our wills about 5 years ago and when asked the question about arrangements I was honestly stumped. I'm not religious at all so I'm really not that bothered what they do with my meat sack. I guess I'll have another think about it but I'm probably leaning towards cremation, just feels less messy to me. :D

Usually means it gets used for dissection classes for medical students they get assigned a body each for the term iirc

This was my wishes and my family looked into it because I used to take students to the cadaver rooms at Keele University.
My family want closure and not think about me being in a room somewhere and you don't get the body back for up to 3 years.
I gave up in the end because it's more important that my family are happy.
