I have just been pulled by the police for speeding. Driving down a completely deserted motorway @ 01:45am. He had been following me for some time without me realising, i saw a pair of headlights behind me, but due to it being so dark I didn't know it was a police car until he finally put his blue lights on. As i was sat in his car he showed me his speed camera readout sat on the dashboard. He had measured my average speed on 4 seperate occasions whilst following me, and the lowest readout was an average of 104.51mph. I asked what happens next, if its points and a fine, and he said anything over 100mph you're pretty much guaranteed to be summoned to court with a possible 1-6 month ban :(

I commute to work down the motorway on a 42 mile round trip each day so a ban would seriously mess me up in work terms. I work 17:30 - 01:30 so @ 01:30 in the morning there is no public transport avaiable and a car is a necessity. A ban would effectively put me out of a job. Does anyone have any similar experience of being done speeding at such a high speed? Is there any way i can plead with the courts not to ban me? I have been driving for 10 years and have no points or previous offences on record at all.

Edit: Didn't know whether to post this in motors or general section?

Damn, just thought of something else. Do i have to inform mt insurance company? Will this immediately increase my current policy price or just increase when i next try to get insured?

Just got up out of bed after not getting to sleep past 6am with worry... :(

The ironic thing about having a car behind me and not knowing it was police is.......when i noticed headlights i immediately started to slow down incase it was police, then i noticed the car only had 1 working headlight and thought, there's no way a police car would be driving about with 1 headlight broke, i'm sure thats against the law, so i put my foot down again.

Is it possible for me to plead by post? I was going to plead guilty either way, there's not much i can say to defend it as its pretty much indefensible. Although might i get a slightly more lenient sentence doing it face to face in court?

To the OP, what have you received from the police officer that pulled you ? did he take your license or anything like that ?

im currently awaiting prosecution for the same offence (i was doing 107) but its been 3 months and ive still heard nothing, and only have a tiny white slip of paper to show that anything has in fact happened, which has in big writing at the bottom "this does not signify that proceedings will follow". So im well confused ...
He filled out a form and give me 2 copies, a blue one which is my copy, and a yellow one which i have to take to my local police station along with my driving license within 7 days.

Any idea of how far away the court date would be? And in that case when a ban would start? I have taken most of July and August off work for holidays etc, would be nice if the ban fell then to have a minimal impact.

Well i drove home today at a steady 69mph right the way down the motorway and got home about 8 minutes later then i normally do, which makes me feel a bit stupid and a little annoyed at how pointless the speeding was. Still bricking it about the possible ban though. Still haven't took my licence to the police station either, i've got till wednesday night but i'm just a bit nervous about the whole thing.

If only the clocks could be turned back....

Hmmmm, bit of an interesting update, I received my NIP today and it has the wrong car registration number on it. I then looked at the form the policeman handed me at the roadside and his handwriting is terrible. The last letter of my reg is a C but his looks like an L. So on my NIP the reg ends with an L. I know i should take my punishment like a man as i was caught fair and square. But wondering whether to say to a judge, no your honour.....i wasn't speeding in THAT car *looks all dumb and innnocent*
