Ok so my work machine is encrypted and doesn't allow you to F8 at start up to request the machine boots in Safe Mode.

So I take a trip to msconfig and adjust the Boot.ini.

Machine boots in safe mode, however my login credentials do not work (Admin is probably required). So I am stuck out of hours without my work machine.

Is there anyway to force a normal boot or prompt. Or do I just have to wait until Monday?

Thanks

Wait till Monday, let the other techs check it out.

I know, but I was due to be working on something over the weekend....

edit: got the option to boot normally at the splash screen now, however, it seems the tick in boot.ini overwrites my selection!

Previous suggestion won't work if the O/S is encrypted (it won't be able to read the files no matter from what you boot up in). If you don't know the Admin account username and password then you're pretty stuck unless you can get into it normally.

The encryption is during the boot process and I have my username and password for that. By default the machine's boot order is disc first, so maybe it will work...

It depends if you're on about a BIOS password in which case it will work or if you're on about proper hard-drive sector level encryption.

If it's the latter then it won't work basically because the encryption 'encrypts' the hard-drive so that it is unreadable without decryption.

Though what you are describing sounds like a BIOS password and if this is the case then bledd's idea will work.

Ok so if it does work, where exactly will I find the boot.ini file and what do I need to change?

From the screen shots on Slax, I don't think I'll be able to find it straight off the bat.
