Don't buy Cyborg Rat mouse!

Well i would advise people never to buy a Cyborg/Mad Catz product for their warranty!
This is their reply:

Dear Guy,

Please keep in mind that the proof of purchase is mandatory for the RMA procedure. We stronglyt advise you to contact the person who bought the mouse and ask about the store where it was purchased from. The bank statement (if the purchase was paid with credit card) should also be sufficient.
Let us know the above and we will advise you accordingly.

Best regards,

Cristina Toma

I had this bought for a gift just over a year ago and supplied the serial number, that should be enough in this day and age.
Absolutley discusted, i had Logitech headphones that broke and they replaced no questions asked long as i supplied the serial number, even my 2 year old Xbox was replaced by serial number.
I realy do not want to be the person who lives far from me for sales records, bank statements its a joke. My most espensive mouse that lasted the shortest legnth of time!

If anyone wants to reply as to what they think about this please do as i will be sending them the link to this thread, especialy as OCUK sell their products as well.
I'm sure people will have 2nd thoughts on buying their products.
Thanks

I think what Mad Catz said in their email is pretty standard practise...

Yes Logitech have good customer service but they're fairly unique in that respect I would guess.

I understand what your saying but surely these days thay can go by serial numbers! i mean like i say my Logitech headphones my xbox and even my GPU 7970 i can check age by serial number!

Have to agree with Eames. If you took the item back to the shop from where it was purchased, the first thing they would ask for is, "proof of purchase".

But it wouldnt be returned to the shop after a year it would be returned to the manufacturer.
Obvisouly if it was under a month old or something you would need to return with receipt as a shop wouldn't have a products serial, but a manufaturer should.

This pretty much, serial numbers don't really proove much. You need to prove it's been purchased.

Hi i was just posting as you wrote this so my last post is above yours, i just think i understand its my opinion , but a lot of products that are over a year old but still under warranty a fair few people won't have receipts.
So this is where the serial number comes in and if they don't use them there is no point to serial numbers:(
I mean i can type my Gigabyte gpu serial into their site and it tells me how long on the warranty without registering, this should be standard.
And of course its been purchased i didn't build it myself lol
Its shame the model has been out over 2 years otherwise i would just say well its obvisouly under 2 years old.
But even if all that you say holds true then i would say deffintly don't buy one as a gift as who gives receipts with their presents and also keep receipts after a year, but i personaly will not buy a product from them.

I have receipts going back over 4 years and bank statements even longer. Having had a similar experience to you some years ago, so I now hang on to all receipts.

Yeah wise move, i myself probably would have saved it but it was a gift and i know if i had bought items for someone else a year ago i probably wouldn't have kept the receipt;)

Same, I even keep the boxes for expensive goods for resale value or in case some **** manufacturer insists.

I bought a pair of Tritton AX Pro cans from Game just after they announced their demise. A year later and the cords were causing static and intermittent sound, IE they were giving way. I contacted Mad Catz support and told them what happened, they said I need proof of purchase which I didn't have. I told them that I paid for the headset with my bank card and that it was the only thing I bought at game. I sent them a copy of the statement indicating £149.99 spent at Game and they accepted it.

Within a week I had a brand new pair of Tritton Pro+ (the successor to the AX Pros).

I've also had a RAT 5 which I had for about two years without any issues at all, I neded up giving it to a mate who's still using it today (which makes it about 5 years old, although he's not a gamer).

Sucks that you're having these issues mate, I hope you get it resolved. Mad Catz have been good to me, touch wood.

I bought a pan from Ikea had a 15 year warranty broke within 6 months, Ikea would do nothing without receipt despite the fact the design had only been out 2 years, ended up buying same pan again keeping receipt and waiting 6 months ;)

On the other side i went out to a gas cooker for top oven not working under warranty, customer really didn't want to show me receipt for some reason and was demanding that i could tell the age of product by serial, wasn't very happy when i told her it was made 4 years earlier as serial number is only a production run number.

Ive had 3 RAT Mouses over the team, and all the high end ones the build quality is poor just like Razer, poorly made stuff people buy them because they look cool and not for the performance!

If goods are faulty and you have lost the receipt all you have to do is provide proof of purchase, such as a cheque book stub or a credit card statement.
Consumer rights, simplez.

Can't agree about razer, had a few mice from them and each lasted quite a while ( year + of buttonsmashing in MMOs ). Didn't bother to rma as they were the cheaper models, abyssus and deathadders.
