Hi,
I have used LCD displays now for about five years and couldn't bare to throw out my old Sony 19inch G400 monitor that cost £450 when I bought it. It has been gathering dust in the garage for four years.

I have a built a new PC for my father in law and have dusted down the old faithful. Blow me, the quality of the video is absolutley superb, far better than a LCD!!! As such,I have given my father in law my 19 inch Iyama vision master LCD and kept the CRT !!! Having a huge corner desk, it matters not that it has quite a footprint.

For sure, I am certain that the ultra modern 2407 and such are better quality LCD's. However, I had a timely reminder that some so called "aging" technology can still cut the mustard, even if it isn't the flavour of the month.

Cheers, Steve

Crts are great... but they just take up too much room!

The newer LCDs are great, much better than the older ones that were a bit naff.

I'm not sure about the high-end, but I'd take a low end LCD over a low end CRT any day! (comparing those crappy CRTs and LCDs in my college)

I had a 19" mitsubishi diamond pro, swapped it for a TN panel 17" tft, the CRT looked crud next to it, not looked back since. :D 2x 20" Dell's now tho.

I still miss the picture quality of my old CRT, especially the black depth. It was noticeably quicker than my 2007WFP as well, as you would expect. I wouldn't have the CRT back though because of desk space, power consumption and I'm not sure it was doing my eyes a lot of good.

I will though be happy when a better technology than LCD comes along with deep black, virtually no ghosting/blur, and near perfect viewing angles etc... there's quite a few technologies on the horizon that promise to do this but they're taking their sweet time about arriving.

Sorry it's dismissed :p
My iilama 19" crt is sat on the daughters PC, it is a good monitor but as the previous post mentions space and eye strain get me with crt. That is why daughter will be getting my hyundai L90D+ 19" tft on Tue when my sammy 22" arrives

Replaced my NEC 19" CRT for a Samsung 226BW and what an improvement. Okay, the pq may not be as sharp but the benefits outweight the negatives (more desk space, more real estate on screen and much much better looking!)

Around 6 months ago I tried my beloved old Sony F520 21" and couldn't believe how much better it was in games compared to my day-to-day Viewsonic 19". Sadly space was an issue so I couldn't use the CRT much.

However, I now have a Dell 30" and blow me is it good :)

I hate CRTs, whenever i'm in uni and I have to use them they give me a headache, they're ugly and can't be repositioned much : Death to CRTs!

I used to lug around large screen CRT's all day. Not fun. Now I can lift up a 42" LCD, and it's still lighter than CRT!

For reduced eyestrain LCD takes the cake. Even pro monitors with 120hz refresh cause me eyestrain. You've also got to mess around with shape depending on what resolution and refresh. Then if you're into HT PAL and NTSC modes, plus different ratios. My Toshiba CRT RP had twelve convergence menus, and the newer model even more (50hz interlaced, progressive and 100hz mode) so roughly 20 convergence/geometry screens.

Yep, that's another negative for CRT-s - eyestrain. I can get much more time on a LCD before it gets more tired. LCD's ***!

newer LCD's are naff as well;) you need to be buying the expensive panels, ie: the 2407's s-pva panel to begin to compare if we're talking image quality. my 22" dell e228wfp certainly isnt up to the job, poor colour accuracy and average contrast.
