could you post the Exif's? Did you use a ND filter or any others?

Exif are all embedded, but for easyness sake, here you go;

For all the waterfall ones I used my ND10 filter.

Hehe, thats why the North is better than the South. :p Cheers. :)

Can I ask how you get so close to your subjects too?

I have a super macro on my camera, so i can almost touch the subject and still focus, but I can't use the zoom when using super macro so i'll never get the detail you get. I guess that's the difference between bridge cameras and DSLR's?

I'm getting a close up filter soon, so I'm hoping that will help.

The lens I use (Sigma 150mm f2.8) is a prime lens, so I can't zoom. If I want to zoom, I have to use my feet. To get 1:1 magnification (No.6 isn't far off), the front element of the lens is about 25cm away from the subject.

so you get all that detail, despite being 25cm away from your subject? wow, that must be some lens!

so in the original i take it the fly from #6 looks quite small, but cropping it obviously gives the illusion that you were more or less touching it with the lens!

whats the minimum focal distance on the Sigma 150mm?

That is nearly full frame. Ive not cropped it much at all. It would be the same with any true macro lens that does 1:1 magnification. When i eventually get my Teleconverter I should be able to do 2:1 magnification. :)

awesome. once i get better with my camera and photography in general i'll start saving for a dslr and a decent macro lens. and a zoom lens...heck.

It claims to be 38cm, but I can focus down to about 22-25cm. Unless they measure it from one of the elements inside the lens, or even the sensor.

Its an expensive game, thats for sure.

Edit; Ive changed no.4 now. Didn't like the poo brown post processing I had done on it.

I love number 2 but I think the effect is slightly over done in 3 and 4, the water and the river banks don't seem to fit together.

Mate of mine has the 100mm canon macro lens for his 5D and wondered this. Had a measure and it turned out the distance in the case of his lens was from the sensor to the subject. So any gains are usually neutralised by the length of the lens.

His old macro lens (which he sold to me) was a the f2.8 60mm and even though it has a shorter 1:1 focus distance compared to the 100mm the actual distance the lens is from the subject is very similar due to the 100mm being a lot larger!

Nice shots by the way messiah! :)

on my 400D there is a small mark on the frame which the manual states is the "focal plane" ie, where to start measuring focal distance from. physical lens length is irrellevant. i wonder if Nikons are the same...

i had wondered about that, i thought that maybe you had done the shot in IR

Not a great fan of number 2, and I really don't like the look of 4. I suppose it may be personal taste, but it looks like a botched attempt at multi layering a shot. I know it isn't, but that's how it seems. The water and the background look too odd to me, plus the blur on the trees due to movement spoils it even more for me.

The rest however, are quite shiny :)
