Don't just play them...

CryEngine is stunning ^^^ :)

Got any info to go with that, or are you just pimping? :p

Just saying, and poking i guess, plenty of people here with high powered rigs playing games.

Why not learn how to make one with all that equipment? plenty of free engines, Unity, UDK (Unreal)....

Most of them come with basic props for your world so you don't need to know how to make 3D objects, they are also fairly simple to understand for beginners, it can be as simple or as complex as you like.

Personally i think CryEngine is the best of the bunch, its intuitive, its easy to use if you just want to make a simple game, or it can be very advanced if you need it to be.

CryEngine EaaS is not free, but it is not at all expensive if you go for the pay monthly subscription option, and it has plenty of 3D content ready to use, so again you don't need 3D design / creation skills.

Its a lot of fun, once you get into it its more addictive than playing games.

Yeah, totally :) I used to do a bit of UT mapping back in the day.

I was just wondering if that was part of something like a single player campaign you were making, or whether it was just a bit of pretty fun for the sake of it (nothing wrong with that btw).

I have no end result in mind, i'm literally just messing about and letting idea's come to me while i'm at it, eventually i may turn it into a FPS, probably just a scenic walk around to begin with.

I have a lot to do, the only part i have anywhere near complete is the first picture with the flowers and palm tress, the rest is partially done with, no atmospherics, Illumination, Physics... nothing really. vast swathes of the area i created are blank.

Even the first bit, i need to add some ambiance to the scene, its a bit lifeless.

Sounds something like something that now I have a bit more free time I could possibly look into dabbling at a bit. Though playing games next month is probably likely to take up a lot of that time but will keep this in mind. Thanks the heads up.
