Don't know when to buy

Hi guys,

I was close to buying a 1950XT today but I'm really unsure if it's worth it. The DX10 is really growing on me, with Crysis apparently coming out within the next 4 weeks, I don't know if to not buy the 1950 and wait until a couple of months when I have a little more money and buy a 8800GTS 640mb or get a 1950 now to satisfy me on DX9 for 3-4 months?

Another thing, are these 8800s really, really good? I don't want to buy one and find I can't play new games at high settings. To me £200-300 on a graphics card is a hella lot of money, just being cautious. :)

Thanks in advance.

Crysis won't be out in the next four weeks.

The 8800s are far and away the best performance cards in DX9 at the moment.

Since DX10 gaming is so far away do you think it's worth buying the 1950 now then a DX10 card later?

Just trying to find the most economical option. :)

Depends how much the 1950 will set you back. I'd say just go for the 8800 though.

Im having the same problem, i want to wait to till the 8800 come down in price or the next gen cards come out, so im tempted to get a

Connect3D ATI Radeon X1950 XT 256MB GDDR3 HDTV/Dual DVI (PCI-express)

while i wait or do i buy

BFG GeForce 8800 GTS OC 320MB GDDR3 HDTV/Dual DVI (PCI-Express)

i know that i will be buying a high end card in the summer so i dont know what to do :s

Exact same problem!

I have a 6600 now, if I get the 1950XT I'll buy it from here. :) So it's £140 I think. I will be buying a new PC in the summer, so is it worth getting the 1950 or waiting and saving?

but will the 320mb card be faster than the x1950xt is it worth the extra £50 now even tho il be most likely getting the 8800 768mb card in the summer

LOL

its poops all over it

Get the EVGA version then just step up in the summer for the difference ;)

SupCom easily, as said above the 320mb GTS destroys the x1950 XT, has much better image quality, and is next gen, x1950's are old tech, as are all ATi's cards, ATi cards are not worth buying at all now. :)

Hmm, although the 8800GTS 320mb seems like the most economical option being DX10, it will last me longer than the 1950XT.

I don't want to get Crysis or what ever DX10 game and play it at anything but high. The tech demos for Crysis in DX9 looked ace and that can't of being anything better than a 1950?

You dont buy the GTS for Dx10, you buy it for Dx9, as is everyone who buys a GTS/GTX, they are buying them for Dx9, theres no point buying them for Dx10 as Dx10 is not here yet, and when it is the 8 series will be the slowest you can get, they are already the slowest Dx10 cards you can get now, and Dx10 is not here yet.

ATi cards are still not worth buying as even in Dx9 the 8 series just obliterates them, ATi can't compete even in Dx9 now. :)

Decided to go for the 1950XT.

It should give me plenty of play about until the bees knees of DX10 cards come out and it's £60 cheaper than the 88GTS.

Thanks guys.

Its faster than the BFG as it has 570mhz core (only 550 on the BFG), and 1.8ghz memory (1600 on the BFG). :)

Be mad to buy the worthless x1950, you may as well just set the money on fire. :(
