PS3 Delayed, PSP Revolution Coming Soon!

On today's PlayStation Business Conference Briefing, Sony Computer Entertainment has announced an upcoming revolution for the PlayStation Portable. There will be tons of new features to be added to this divine object of glory in the upcoming months. A delay to the PS3 release has also been announced officially.

The uses will be able to add new exciting functions, such as Macromedia Flash Player and RSS channel support to the PSP, by updating the System Software of the PSP (the firmware) to the latest version.

New official accessories will also be released this autumn, such as the PSP camera "PSP-300" and the GPS receiver "PSP-290". The users will be able to experience the motion tracing function of the EyeToy, which was originally available on the PS2 by using the PSP camera. With the help of the GPS receiver, you will be able to make use of navigation software to guide your way all over the world.

Sony will be starting a new e-Distribution system for the PSP. You may start to wonder what it is, huh? Well, simply saying - to download games into your memory stick, and run them directly from it!! Bye-bye, loading times... But wait, that is not all the fun you can get from the new service. There will also be an OFFICIAL PlayStation Emulator by Sony itself (PacManFan, don't cry)! Sony will be distributing modified PlayStation/PlayStation 2 games throught this system.

Also, the "Ceramic White" PSP will be sold in a normal pack (PSP, 1 battery, power adapter) from April in Japan, at a price for 19,800 JPY (167.8 USD).

So much for the PSP side, now here is a bad news for the PS3 fans. Sony has officially announced that the release of the PS3 is postponed from this spring to early November of 2006. However, the release of the PS3 will be global - Asia, North America and Europe will be getting the release in the mean time. Sony will be able to offer 1 million consoles per month after the release, to meet the need of the users around the world

I also know something else to do with the PSP, but an NDA prevents me from saying anything :)

Bit of a pointless post then really.
Heheh

So it has a more functional web browser. Then it has some gadgets that make it EVEN MORE bulky, and EVEN MORE games that are already available on the PSX / PS2.

So it STILL doesn't have any good original games (outside of the couple out now)?

Oh well, looking forward to playing Final Fantasy on it if they get it working :)

yeah i just read this on that PSP related site

sounds good

would be awesome to play the resi evil series again on the psp !

How would you get 4 discs of FFVIII or 3 of FFVII on a memory stick?

would you have to pay? Or is it all application released on a PC, where you put the PS disc in the PC drive and it will 'rip' it to the memory stick?

It's Sony thats doing it, so my guess is you will download the stuff direct to the memory stick and pay for it

you could fit a 4 disc game onto a 8gig memory stick no probs

I believe most Final Fantasy games are actually pretty small (only a couple of hundred megs at most), it's the FMV that takes up all the space. I think with modern compression techniques they could cram FFVII into 1GB. If it's some sort of online distribution service then maybe they'll sell it in smaller chapters maybe. Who knows? They said the games will be modified (presumably for the screen res).

As for the camera... I can't really see a time when you'd want to webcam chat with a PSP. Then again, I've never really got into the whole cam thing so maybe some people will enjoy it. Games wise, they won't be like traditional EyeToy games, I think they'll come up with some sort augmented reality thing. Have a look at this: http://www.engadget.com/2005/06/14/camblaster-turns-your-cameraphone-into-a-first-person-shooter/

As I've said before..
The PSP does many things, but it isn't the best at any of them :)

And that's why I don't have/need/want one.

Yeah, as a webcam or simple camera/video recording attachment, I guess the Eye Toy would have a decent use. Just since they're calling it the Eye Toy (rather than just "attachable camera"), I'd imagine they have games planned for it, which as said, would be a bit unwieldy for a handheld.

I just bought a 2gig memory stick of the bay earlier today in the hope of getting more mp3's on the go. I got it for £45 total. that's including P&P. ;) Quite the steal I think. Anyway, bring on 4 gig and 8 gig (when the price is right of course)
