Don't understand mouse mat users

Got a 3D Iron Maiden mouse mat, still in packaging.
Also got an original Guild Wars mouse mat, also still in its packaging.

Micro mart....Using it as a mouse mat. Tear a page off when current one starts to get grubby :)

Reasons to use a mousemat:

- A fabric mousemat is a lot more confortable for your hand than a cold, hard desk surface
- When gaming, it provides a smoother surface which can increase responsiveness
- Removes permanent wear on your desk surface
- Removes permanent wear on your mouse
- If your desk is made of glass or has a reflective surface, an opaque mousemat can minimise laser disruption
- Can minimise noise caused by friction

Reasons not to use a mousemat:

- You own an expensive electronic device and have the money to pay for electricity to keep it running, but somehow can't afford a couple of quid for something as basic as a mousemat

A mouse? How quaint :D ;)

We can't all be megafagit's :( :p

plz dont ban me

Reasons to use a super wide mousemat:

- looks rad as heck
- nice yellow bit at the bottom which matches with your Rokit 8 monitors
- FEELS NOICE
- something about science, maybe better aim or something? Let's go with 'improved performance'.

Reasons not to use a super wide mousemat:

- You hate yourself and life in general.

Less noise and softens the impact a bit so less wear and tear on the mouse plus provides better tactile feedback in gaming.

The best mat I ever had was a glass one from ocuk about 8/9 years ago, had to install a patch so that the laser on the G5 (that I've still use) would work on it.

Worked well until it got smashed when something fell off a shelf onto it. Never bothered since, desk does fine for me :)

No mat, no thanks. Gaming wise, it just doesn't work without one.

Allsop raindrop for like 15 years now, it's dirty as hell but gives me that right feeling. Before that, the mat of the day was a 3M.

I use a mat because it guarantees a clear area on my desk, and one that gives a good surface for the mouse that is easy to clean.

was it an Icemat?
I still use mine extensively as it gives a nice feel for the mouse as long as I remember to wipe it down with glass cleaner every now and then :)

It's probably the best value PC related item I have ever bought given the tens of thousands of hours or use it's had, according to my emails I ordered it from Play.com for a tenner just over 11 years ago.
I sort of wish I'd ordered a couple of spares as I'm going to miss it when it dies.

The second best value (and best "active") part is probably the SMC 8 port 10/100 switch I bought from Jungle back in the day, that lasted 15 years of continuous use (only retired to the spares box as I replaced it with a gigabit one).

This is my mouse mat:

I've had it for 11 years, and it's never let me down. Reckon it'll keep going for at least another decade.

:)

It's a consistent surface to use and protects the desk from long term abrasion of using the mouse in the same spot.

Desk surfaces don't usually have consistent mouse tracking in mind and they are flat out noiser to use a mouse on than a cloth mat.

Of course you can get mousemats which are hilariously noisier than any desk and have highly suspect tracking such as glass mousemats. Also awkwardly cold to the touch.

I use a mouse mat because the texture of it is consistent so I do not get any random pointer jumps etc. Light from the laser will respond differently on different surfaces, especially shiny, polished, wood with obvious grain grooves etc. With a mouse mat I just feel like I have more consistent control :)

I use a gaming 'surface' thing bought from here a few years ago. Covers my entire working area so my keyboard sits on it and obviously mouse is used on it too. Keeps the keyboard in place rather than it slide everywhere on the wooden desk and makes the mouse more comfortable to use :)
