Is there any way to get a non "E" version of 7?

Dont really want to do a clean install just because of some tiff between microsoft and the EU.

it's daft isn't it

I next to never use IE, but will still install it, there's the odd time I may fire it up instead of the Fox

get someone in the states to sell you one? although i think many retailers are blocking shipment to outside the US..

A clean install really is the safest and most effective way though. Upgrade installs are often far more problematic and they're unlikely to perform as well as a clean install will.

Agreed.

So we get an extra disk with IE on it. Thanks EU lawmakers you've really done us proud this time

I wouldn't do an upgrade install even if I could. Usually a recipe for aggrovation in some form or another.

Normally I would agree. But this time around... Vista and W7 are so fundamentally similar that an upgrade would likely go very smoothly.

Dont see the problem we get the "full" version i.e. non upgrade version at a discount price, every where else I can see they are just dsicounting the upgrade version, though I may be wrong, then all you have to do to get ie8 if you want to use it is go to windows update as soon as you are installed.

Easy peasy./

Some people want to upgrade, rather than format.

Last time I formatted, for Vista, it took me about 2 months to get the system back to where I was before - in terms of getting all my software loaded back on and setup how I like it.

no way to get it, well apart from America. But that's an upgrade disk. We are getting the full retail. A full reinstall isn't hard unless you don't have a spare drive for storage. I would always do a clean install, you know where you are then.

And agree I hadly ever install IE but I still want it there for a fresh install so I can downloaded teh latest firefox/antivirus etc.

Crazy..

I'm forever doing fresh installs, and it takes me ~35 minutes, including install time, to get everything the way I like it :)

Back when I used an nlited XP build with my own silent installers/regedits, I could be up and running in 16 minutes from booting from the CD :D

the EU being gayers basically

they kept fining microsoft for 'unfair practices', because of ms monopolising the market by shipping WMP and IE with windows

apple can do what they want on the other hand :p

just keep ie and firefox on usb key not too demanding for you is it?

no it's not 'too demanding' for us, but think of the average joe who buys this, goes to install it on his pc at home, then is screwed because he has no browser, and no second machine to even get a browser!

madness!

Apple aren't monopolising their dominant position ;)

Let me explain.

Say you worked for Apline, or Kenwood incar stereo manufacturers.

Say for agruements sake 90% of cars sold were FORDs.

Say for agruements sake FORD decided to throw in a free radio (FORD radio for free).

You'd be happy with that?
