I am going to attempt to complete Doom 2 on '12 in a 10 point scale of bad' difficulty using the Brutal Doom mod.

Needless to say its going to be a challenge as its 10 times harder with fast enemies than 'ultra violence' but without the annoying respawning enemies on nightmare

Show some love for the classic Dooms which, IMO are still way better than modern games - available for very cheap on Steam and will provide hundreds of hours of gameplay. http://store.steampowered.com/sub/18397/

Quick video showing the mod and how hard its going to be

I actually missed the original DOOMs the first time around - was around 18 at the time and was only interested in going to raves and getting wasted. I did buy the original trilogy last year and completed and enjoyed DOOM 3. Despite my efforts at trying to get in to the first 2, I've been put off by the way the game just lets you pick any level to play and when you do complete a level it just takes you back to the menu screen to select another. I think if I had to complete a level to get to the next I'd have stuck at it a bit more - I take it the originals weren't like this - just the modern re-release of them?

If you use the brutal doom mod or original you play though the levels. I think it was only Doom 95 with Windows 95 launcher than let you pick the level (which I hated too)

The mods allow you to customise how it looks but I just keep it pretty similar to the original but with better controls and slightly updated graphics. Most is the same though.

It's really worth getting the classic collection for a tenner and starting with ultimate doom 'doom' WAD

Nice video. Maybe something like the smooth Doom mod would add a nice touch to the gameplay as well?

Edit: I'm not certain it won't conflict with BD, though.
