Doom 3 TimeDemo - what fps with 8800GTX?

As the title, I'm wondering what framerate should be expected with an 8800GTX in the doom3 timedemo @ 1280x1024 with everything maxed. I'm only getting 53fps whereas benchmarks I've come across online seem to indicate more like 90fps. Wondering if I have something configured incorrectly or something...

I can't find the original benchmarks I was looking at, but I coulda sworn they had everything on full, so 16x AA and 16x AF. Turning AA down a couple gives much better results, 8x = 110fps and 4x = 170fps. So I think it's probably ok and I just misread the original tests. :-/

Still, if anybody does want to try it I'm using:

158.22 drivers
WinXP
res: 1280x1024
16x AA, Ultra Quality in D3 (which I understand does 16x AF)

and 3DMark06 gave 12120

How do you play the timedemo? ill test it with the same settings for ya.

timedemo demo1 usecache

To the OP, make sure you add the usecache parameter when running the timedemo to ensure you are getting an accurate score.

Is that benchmark stock?

Well, I haven't touched the video card yet (OC2 though so overclocked out of the box) E6420 is at 3.2Ghz at the moment, RAM at 1000Mhz 5-4-4-15.

@HangTime: Yup, I've done it with and without usecache. Only seemed to make about 4 fps difference with everything on max. Original reading was with usecache.

Hmm, I'm not all that familar with the new Nvidia Control panel, but under "Manage 3D Settings" -> "Vertical sync" is "Use the 3D Application setting" and in Doom3 it's definately set to disabled.

Hi sidefxv1,

At 1280x1024/Ultra Quality/4xAA I get 93.9FPS using an E2140@3200MHz, 2GB Crucial SE DDR2 and a 512MB Powercolour X1950XT. This is with the V-Sync Option 'Disabled'.

I do however play with the V-Sync option enabled as otherwise I get a weird 'creeping' effect.

I think you have V-Sync enabled as your frame rate should be sky-high (especially as Doom 3 runs better on nVidia cards).

E6600 stock, HD2900XT stock.

1440x900, 4xAA, 16xAF, Ultra settings.

118.5fps.

I do think you're doing something wrong, any chance you can 3DMark your rig?

He gets 170fps with 4xAA at a higher resolution than you, so I'm not entirely sure what he's doing wrong. Plus he's already given his 3dmark06 score, which at over 12k doesn't seem too bad.

Ah yes, sorry, thought he was getting that at 4xAA, my mistake. :)
