Hi,

About 6 months ago our UPVC front door lock decided to stop working. Before that we'd had about 2 months of it being difficult to get the key in and out..but only from the outside. We can lock and unlock it fine from indoors but if we want to go out any where we have to lock it from inside and use the back door.

Now the back door lock has started doing the same thing with the keys being difficult to get in and out from the outside but fine from the inside.

So, it's time to replace them both before I end up using the patio doors :p

How hard is it to do? Figured it's just a case of replacing the barrel but never done anything like this before. Any advice gratefully received :)

Thanks for the info and links etc :D

Looks like i'll be getting this done asap :) defo not water getting in though, both doors are under cover with a car port over the back door and porch over the front but i'll get some spray for the new locks as a precaution :)

How much are people paying for their locks?

For 2 cylinders I've been quoted "@ £40 Ea plus vat. We would key them alike for you, and would come with 3 keys".

Just wondering if that's about right.

Once this is done, I've got to design and build a 2 patio door panels as that lock has gone as well, except its the lever system and not the cylinder. Sealed UPVC frame means a complete new window or some rubbish lock replacement system that screws onto the inside of the frame. joy :)

mine have just been ordered, should sit flush to the door handles :)

was very easy to take out. Considering seeing how easy these are to actually break in to once the new locks arrive :D

I didn't replace the handles at the time so no idea myself, you could try emailing the ABS and asking which they would recommend :)

So, is it definitely an insurance problem?

My wife works at an insurance broker, each insurer will have a minimum spec when it comes to security around the house. Best bet is to give them a call and ask as it can be slightly different from one to the other :)
